Optimist sailing from basics Part 3

After the new competitor has tries the sailing camp, where they have taken to this sport, and they have also taken part in the training sessions during autumn and they still like this sport, the atmosphere of the port, the team, the club-mates, then comes a little leisure time until the real sailing comes.

Earlier, the season used to have a definite end, today it looks a bit different (mainly at the national team level). Those who take this sport seriously go sailing at races at least once in winter to maintain their knowledge, their accustomed movements, so they won’t get “rusted”. This way they don’t have to spend the first few weeks of spring learning things that they think have already learnt.

For most sailors this period is about physical training, developing condition and stamina.
After all, if someone neglects these things and just turns their head away, they will experience this golden rule the hard way. You don’t need to think of clattering fitness machines. The stress is on regularity: three times swimming, running, physical education at school (if it’s not only about football), so anything that moves the competitor and so they gain stamina. And here comes a new saw: condition is the basis of efficiency.
